For this outfit, I was somewhat inspired by gypsies, more specifically, Esmeralda from The Hunchback of Notre Dame. ;)  My mom recently went to Guatemala on a work trip, and she brought me the beautiful handmade metallic scarf that I’m wearing in this post.  I thought it would look cool to mix and match colors and patterns with it for that modern gypsy look.  My outfit also wouldn’t have been complete without adding my gold Margiela clutch; it reminds me of the moon.  Unfortunately, there is no Hunchback land or ride at Disneyland, so I ended up being a “traveling gypsy” in Hollywood Land. :D

On Monday, it was my boyfriend Andres’ birthday, so this past weekend, I surprised him and took him skydiving!  For my next post, I will be posting photos and videos of our jump.  Stay tuned! ;)

This is probably the first time you’ve seen me wear pink.  I never wear pink; I was probably around 14 the last time I did wear it.  I feel like it doesn’t go with my personality; therefore, I feel pretty fake when I wear it.  However, every now and then, I see really cool and edgy pink pieces that I could actually see myself wearing.  That is the case with the top I’m wearing in this post.  This is the Kate Spade Saturday Shape Shifter top and what I loved about it more than anything was the cutouts on the sides; this gives the top a modern and edgy feel which is something I never associate with pink.  Also, I realized that this bright shade of pink also suits my skin and hair color quite well. :)  To give it an extra edge, I decided to wear it with my black leather shorts; and to keep the femininity of the color, I decided to take my photos by the dainty, pink flowers of Disneyland. ;)

Lately, I’ve been obsessed with Dolce & Gabbana and their ads in the magazines.  I will just stare at them for a couple of minutes and dream that I am right there in Sicily or Capri with the models, wearing all of those gorgeous clothes and opulent accessories.  So, now that I have the Filigrana sunglasses that I had been dying for and which are featured in one of their ads, I was very inspired to do an outfit post that resembled those from the Dolce & Gabbana shoots.  Well, I wasn’t in Italy for this shoot, but I had Aladdin’s Oasis at Disneyland, and the decor and architecture was just as dreamy and beautiful. ;)

I think it’s pretty obvious that this shoot was inspired by the hippie movement of the ’60’s. ;)  The print on my M Missoni shorts totally reminded me of the psychedelic patterns of that era.  I gave my look a more modern touch, but lucky for me, I was able to keep the vibe alive because of Fillmore’s Taste In at Cars Land in Disney’s California Adventure park.  The look wouldn’t have been complete without the bead curtains! :D

I’ve been wanting to share this blouse which I got in Cancun a couple of months ago when I went, but I hadn’t gotten around to wearing it.  Since it is basically the end of summer, I figured I better hurry up and wear it; so here is a quick post to show it you.  I’ve always been obsessed with traditional clothing and accessories from different countries, especially from Mexico.  This blouse is from the state of Chiapas in Mexico and it is hand embroidered by the indigenous women who live there.  I love the color combination and how the embroidery is all around the neckline.  The cut of the blouse and the floral pattern reminded me of the medieval era so naturally, I chose to take my photos at the Fantasy Faire at Disneyland, since it is inspired by a medieval town.  I paired the blouse with gold and my Bejeweled Steve Madden sandals for that folklore inspired look.  I am wearing shorts by the way! :P

Two years ago today, I decided to launch this blog, The Lion in Jewels.  I’m really glad I decided to open it because it’s given me great opportunities and a chance to meet wonderful people in the fashion and blogging world.  Although it hasn’t grown to be a huge, successful blog yet, it’s been growing little by little and everyday I know that it will improve, as I’ve been learning more.  I want to thank you, all of my readers, for every comment, like, and follow; and for being here every step of the way even though sometimes I feel like my outfits and posts aren’t that interesting. :/  This year, there will be some changes for this blog as I plan on remodeling it and adding a jewelry shop featuring my finds from vintage shops and the places I travel to!  I will also be going back to school this year for Film & TV Costume Design!  I’m very excited about this next step in my life, but I may get busy and not post as much so thank you in advance to those of you who will be sticking around. ;)

I chose the dress which I’m wearing in this post; I thought it was perfect for the transition to fall.  I sent in my measurements and I was amazed at how perfect it fit considering I’ve never seen it in person and never tried it on.  I chose to have the neckline widened and I kept all of the other styling choices the same.  I received my dress in the mail only a week and a half after ordering it!  I couldn’t get over how beautiful it was when I opened the package.  The construction of it is impeccable and the fabric is of great quality.  My favorite part of course, was the embroidery detail on the sleeves.

Everything about the whole experience was perfect.  It’s like having your own personal couturier at an affordable price and with fast service.  Now, here’s some great news…

Hello everyone!  I know I’ve been gone for a while; I started school this month so I’ve been busy with homework and whatnot.  I’ve been out of school for four years, so it’s been weird getting used to that life again. I’m really excited though, I’m loving it so far. :)

Anyway, here is a shoot that I did about two weeks ago.  I love everything about it.  I’m not used to mixing prints or even dressing in a retro-inspired way, but I loved the idea of a ’50’s or ’60’s road trip across Route 66.  I took the road trip the Disney way, at Cars Land of course. ;)

…and Halloween is coming up!  It’s my favorite holiday, so I can’t wait to dress up.  I will definitely be doing a shoot with my costume; I’m really excited to share it!

2015 is just around the corner and there’s no better way to ring in the new year than with sparkling jewels.  New Year’s Eve is one of my favorite holidays because it is definitely the most glamorous in my opinion.  For me, it is the night to look your best and take out your most decadent jewels.

Hello all; I’m finally back with a new outfit post!  It feels like it’s been forever, I really missed my blog.  I was really busy with school and sadly, Disneyland wasn’t able to find my camera; but now I have a new one. ;)  Even though I will probably be busy again this next quarter at school, I will definitely try and make time to post more.  I’ve also been meaning to post the work I’ve been doing for school.  I will be getting that up soon too.

So this Christmas, my boyfriend Andres, gave me this awesome Baroque-inspired sweater by Roberto Cavalli, which is just perfect for me.  The Baroque period is one of my favorites; the extravagance, the patterns, and all the gold were everything.  This sweater definitely portrays that in a modern and edgy way.  I decided to give the look a little bit of a ‘pop’ by wearing my leopard print boots from Zara.

…and no, I didn’t shoot my outfit at Disneyland this time.  It was really crowded the whole holiday season but it should be fine now, so the next one will be shot there. :D

It really has been a wild winter here in SoCal.  It’s been extremely cold and dry one day, raining the next, and currently it’s ridiculously hot, I’m talking 90 degrees hot.  It’s driving me insane, I hope I don’t get sick!  I love Cali but sometimes this weather makes me just want to move somewhere where the weather is what it’s supposed to be.  Anyway, we shot this look on a rainy day; I always love wearing an all black outfit on a gloomy day like this, it adds to the mood.  This time, I had a pop of leopard print in my look, which called for a tropical jungle backdrop.

I haven’t owned anything red probably since high school.  I don’t know why but I began to hate the color and decided to never buy anything red again.  But recently, I started to appreciate it again and now I’m open to buying red pieces if they’re really awesome and if it’s a nice shade of red (I’m really picky with colors).  On a recent trip to Zara, I saw this blouse and I immediately fell in love with it, I tried it on and I was amazed at how good it looked with the color of my hair and skin.  Maybe red is my color after all!  I also love pleated blouses because they drape so beautifully.  I can picture many ways to style this blouse, but in this case I went for a Maria Felix-esque cowboy look.  I recently got the snake necklace that I’m also wearing in this post and I really wanted to wear it with red and my cowboy hat just as Maria did in one of her famous photographs.  And yes I’ve added another pair to my boot collection.

St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner.  Whether you celebrate it or not, I think it’s always inspiring to see all of the beautiful shades of green worn by the people who don’t want to get pinched.  I hardly wear any green clothing, but jewelry-wise, I would wear multiple green stones all at once.  One of my favorite stones is the Emerald.  It’s so rich and mysterious, if I had at least one I would definitely rock it on St. Patrick’s Day.  Until then, I have my costume jewelry.  You too can show your spirit with green jewels.  I’ve provided a little jewelspiration for you below with some of my top green picks.  Good luck!

It’s spring and the days are getting warmer, which means it’s time to start planning for your next beach vacation if you haven’t already gone during Spring Break.  Whether you’ll be spending your days in the sun at your local beach, the French Riviera, or the Caribbean, you can always add glamour to your beach look, especially if you don’t go into the ocean like me.  In my opinion, the quickest way to do this is by wrapping a turban on your head and piling on the jewels, just like in this Vogue Russia editorial.  It doesn’t matter what your bathing suit looks like, it can be a classic black style, but as soon as you add a colorful turban and a gold necklace, you’ll immediately add a little bit of drama.

Since I’m on the topic, I’m also excited to announce that I’m already planning my beach vacation for the summer.  I just bought my ticket, I’m going to Croatia!  I’ve never been there and it looks absolutely beautiful so I can’t wait.  If you’ve been there or live there and have any recommendations, don’t hesitate to send them to me!  I’ve already started to think about my looks and you will definitely see me in turbans and jewels on the beach over there.  I’ve added a gallery of my top turban and jewelry picks below for you to browse through for inspiration…

It’s very rare that I wear clean, simple dresses.  You know me, I like my ornate embroideries and rich fabrics.  However, when spring comes around, I always look for ways to freshen up my wardrobe especially since it starts getting warmer.  Spring is the perfect time to start things on a clean slate, your wardrobe included.  The easiest way to transition into spring style is to swap your pants and sweaters for a classic dress like the one I am wearing in this post by Céline.  The clean, solid structure of the dress allows for you to style it with some of your winter accessories while still keeping a fresh, youthful look.  As you can see, I paired it with some of my jewelry that I’ve worn multiple times throughout the fall and winter.  You can always add a fun pop to the look to avoid looking too serious, like how I added my tiger sunglasses.  You can also add a printed scarf or a bright bag.

Growing up, one of my favorite stories was The Secret Garden.  Actually, I was completely addicted to it; I would read the book over and over and watched the film on repeat.  Even today, I have to admit, I’ll still watch it every now and then.  It really is a beautiful story and I guess I always felt like I related to Mary, the main character.  She was strange and a bit of a loner; but deep down had the power to change and make those around her feel alive.  Not to mention, I’ve always been obsessed with the dark, eerie Misselthwaite Manor and it’s beautiful gothic decor and the garden itself, of course.  It’s because of this story, I’ve always dreamed of having a secret garden of my own.  A place where I can be alone with my thoughts and feelings.  Or, in the case of this shoot, a place where you can pray for the forgiveness of sins…

I’ve been frantically running around like a mad woman these days trying to find what to wear for this wedding and what to take for my vacation.  And one thing I really hate about myself is that I’m a really indecisive person.  I had already bought one gown for the wedding and ordered a necklace for it, then when the necklace arrived I decided I didn’t like the overall look anymore.  So…my hunt began again for another gown.  I found a Rachel Zoe one online and ordered it but it arrives to my house tomorrow; I already bought new accessories new for it so wish me luck that it works out!  I’m leaving this Thursday to Mexico so I don’t have much time. :/

Anyway, I am taking time to post this small shoot in between this madness.  A few days ago it was really hot and sunny here at home, and when it is really hot, I like to wear all white outfits.  I know, I go from one extreme to the other.  Now the weather’s back to its June gloom glory and with a bit of rain, just how I like it…

All hail The Pearly Queen.  Yes, I know this is another all white look, but as I mentioned before…I go from one extreme to the other, all black in the cold weather, and all white in the warm weather.  Ever since I bought this Kenneth Jay Lane necklace, I always envisioned myself wearing it in a dramatic Elizabethan era way, roaming around “my castle”.    And, while shopping for things for my Croatia trip, I stumbled upon this amazing skirt and shirt with dramatic sleeves at H&M (yes, another dramatic sleeve shirt for my collection).  Then I thought, if Queen Elizabeth I lived today, she would absolutely wear the two pieces together around her castle, on her days off…

Alright, well now I really have to pack for Mexico.  I haven’t even started, it’s midnight and I’m leaving at 9 a.m., typical me.  Oh how I’m dreading this.
